USA: Ford "material" takes to air to beat dock strike
Ford has begun flying in some unspecified materials by air to beat a dock workers strike affecting 10 North American assembly and four powertrain plants that normally import through Tacoma, Washington and Long Beach and Oakland in California.
"The 14 manufacturing facilities are not feeling any effects from the situation on the west coast [and]... we do not foresee a need to take action at any of our plants or to change our current production schedules in any way," Ford said in a statement.
"We have begun to import some materials via air in order to ensure smooth operation of our plants, and will continue to do what is necessary to work around this issue. Our first priority is to protect our manufacturing production schedules," the statement ended.
