Ford Motor China has reported sales of 240,879 units for the first nine months of 2008, up from 224,849 during the same period last year.

The data includes passenger car sales of 159,833 units by the passenger car joint venture, Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA), which was up from 150,521 units for the same period last year, and commercial vehicle sales of 75,496 units by Jiangling Motors Corporation, Ford's commercial vehicle investment in China. Transit sales increased 11% over the same period last year, to 21,083 units.

"A number of factors, both internal and external to China, helped contribute to an overall slowdown in the domestic auto market during the third quarter," said Robert Graziano, president and CEO of Ford Motor China.
