Ford took both North American Car and Truck of the Year awards at the Detroit, only the third time in 17 years that the same manufacturer has won both awards.

The Fusion Hybrid was named Car of the Year and the Transit Connect - shipped from Turkey - Truck of the Year.

Car finalists included the VW Golf and Buick La Crosse; the Transit Connect edged out the Chevrolet Equinox and Subaru Outback to win the truck award.

Ford's stand at Cobo is its largest ever, 48% bigger than last year's at 54,000 sq ft.

Ford said last year's show generated more than 125,000 leads, 22,000 actual test drives and 2,020 vehicle sales. "There's no better venue than an auto show to demonstrate our advanced technology and products at a critical point in the buying process for many attendees."

One of the highlights of this year's show stand is live driving demonstrations of active park assist.
