New vehicle sales in Indonesia were flat in April 2011 at 60,702 units, compared with 60,767 units a year earlier, according to data compiled by industry association Gaikindo.

Compared with the record sales of the previous month, volumes fell by over 26%.

The industry is struggling to maintain supplies to support continued market growth in the wake of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan in March.

Joko Trisanyoto, marketing director of PT Toyota Astra Motor, said local production has been affected by a shortage of components from Japan. Key models such as the Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Xenia, which are produced by PT Astra Daihatsu Motor, have been affected.

In the first four months of the year, sales increased by 26.3% to 286,115 units, compared with 226,560 units a year earlier, thanks to record sales in the first quarter of the year.
