SRI LANKA: First locally designed and built car due in 2004
Plans to build Sri Lanka's first domestically-designed and manufactured car are in train, with a company announcing plans to deliver its new Micro model in early 2004, writes Swineetha Dias Wickramanayaka. The blueprint for the lightweight five seater city car, with a resin composite body, has been drawn up by specialists from Malaysia, Britain and Italy, said Dr Lawrence Perera, chairman of the manufacturer Transmec Holdings Pvt Ltd.
