GERMANY: Employee forum requests talks with GM management
General Motors' European employee forum has asked GME/Opel/Vauxhall management to begin talks on a business plan for the years leading to 2016.
According to a Dow Jones report, the forum said speculation on the future of GM's European sites has damaged the image of Opel and Vauxhall, noting problems resulting from the difficult sales situation in Europe and a need for a common growth plan.
"It is especially the case that employees in all European sites suffer insecurity from this speculation. Potential customers are furthermore made insecure in the already difficult economic environment," the forum said in a statement cited by the news agency.
Workers' representatives in all of the countries where the companies are present have asked the boards of GM and Opel for discussions on possible solutions but both companies have rejected such talks, it said.
