Delphi Aftermarket Operations, the recently created division of Delphi Automotive Systems (NYSE: DPH - news), is partnering with three Mexican distributors to bring aftermarket customers in Mexico the same high-quality products and services that the world's Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have come to expect from Delphi, the world's largest automotive supplier.

Two of Delphi's Mexican distribution partners, Comercializadora Moresa, S.A. de C.V. (Comosa), and Lectropar, S.A. de C.V. (Lectropar), will be master distributors for Delphi's aftermarket operations in Mexico, distributing Delphi branded products as well as the current product lines they manufacture.

The third distribution partner for Delphi in Mexico is Delphi Diesel Systems Service in Mexico, S.A. de C. V., which Delphi recently acquired when it purchased all the assets of Lucas Diesel Systems and its related aftermarket activities from TRW, Inc. Delphi Diesel Systems Service in Mexico, S.A. de C. V., with five branches in Mexico, supplies diesel fuel pumps, injectors and filters, and will continue to offer a complete line of diesel products and diesel repair services. These products, currently sold under the Lucas brand, will transition to the Delphi brand and new Delphi packaging by the end of the year.

`Partnering with distribution companies that are firmly entrenched in the Mexican automotive aftermarket is an economical and strategic decision for Delphi,` said Al Rowley, director, sales, Delphi Aftermarket Operations. `With the distribution infrastructure already in place, we can focus our efforts on building upon the distributors' solid customer base and knowledge of the Mexican aftermarket.`

Rowley said working with different distributors provides Delphi with several ways to reach customers in Mexico. `We'll also benefit from the different strengths of each distributor as we create a seamless aftermarket sales operation in Mexico.`

Delphi's global aftermarket division was first introduced in Europe and in South America in 1999. In 2000, Delphi launched in Asia Pacific and Canada, and the launch in Mexico is currently taking place at the PAACE Automechanika show in Mexico City. Delphi's strategy is to become its customer's Partner of Choice, offering a diversified product line that covers all vehicle makes while providing increased service and support to all of its global aftermarket customers.

Delphi is well positioned to take advantage of recent trends in the aftermarket that have created the need for a single-source provider of replacement-part products and services. Rapid growth in the number of vehicles on the roads worldwide, an increase in the age of vehicles on the road, an increase in kilometers driven and the enhanced durability and complexity of new models has created a growing demand for aftermarket suppliers that can provide value-added services and technical competency.

Delphi will ultimately produce a wide variety of aftermarket products, which fall under five key aftermarket categories: under car (such as shocks/struts), thermal systems (such as air conditioning components), energy/engine management systems (such as alternators, fuel pumps and fuel handling systems and batteries), electronics (such as engine control modules, sensors and mobile multimedia products like Rear Seat Entertainment and Mobile Productivity Center ôMPCè) and re-manufactured products.

Delphi will enter the market in Mexico with several products, including batteries, spark plugs, re-manufactured electrical parts (e.g. starters and alternators) and brakes.
