UK: Car sales set new record in 2002
New car sales in the United Kingdom smashed through the 2.5 million barrier to set a new record in 2002, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMTT). Sales increased by 4.3% over 2001 to 2,563,631 in 2002, worth an estimated £33.3 billion, the SMMT claimed. New car registrations increased by 14.3% in December alone to a best ever 144,576 sales.
