Audi has announced that it will increase Brazilian production of the A3 model to 1,200 units per month in the second half of the year. Currently, the São José dos Pinhais plant (Paraná state) builds around 900 units of the A3 monthly. The decision to increase A3 production reflects raised expectations for the Brazilian car market in 2001.

VW Group's São José dos Pinhais plant produces the Audi A3 and the Volkswagen
Golf.

Vehicle manufacturers have invested huge sums in Brazilian vehicle manufacturing capacity in expectation of growing automotive demand in Brazil and its neighbouring Mercosur countries. However, the region was plunged into economic crisis in the late 1990s. Market demand and production is now in recovery phase.
