Audi has begun car assembly in Indonesia, partnering with Indomobil/Garuda Mataram Motor to assemble A4 1.8 TFSI and A6 2.0 TFSI cars in Jakarta.

Around 2,700 cars will be assembled there by 2015, including 2,000 A4 models, for the Indonesian market. The first A4 and A6 units were delivered last month.

"After having done so in key markets like China and India, we've now found an outstanding partner for local assembly of our Audi models in Indonesia," said Audi AG production chief Frank Dreves.

Indonesian customers initially are served by three Audi dealers but the network will be expanded.

The Indonesian market is forecast to grow by 15% this year while sales in the premium segment are expected to double over the next five years.
