UGS Corp., a leading provider of product lifecycle management (PLM)
products and services, today announced UGS-sponsored Hendrick Motorsports,
Joe Gibbs Racing and KB Racing -- whose cars are developed with the help of
UGS(R) digital product development technology -- started the 2006 race season
in victory lane.
Hendrick Motorsports driver Jimmie Johnson claimed his first victory in
the "Great American Race" by winning the 48th annual NASCAR(R) NEXTEL Cup
Series' Daytona 500 and giving the team its sixth Daytona 500 victory. Jeff
Gordon, also a Hendrick Motorsports driver and a three-time Daytona 500
winner and a four-time NEXTEL Cup Champion, won the Gatorade Duel at Daytona
leading up to the Daytona 500.
Joe Gibbs Racing and driver Denny Hamlin won the Budweiser Shootout, the
traditional kickoff to the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season, held the week before the
Daytona 500. The field for the 70-lap non-point race consists of all of the
pole winners from the previous season as well as past winners of this race.
Hamlin, aided by teammate Tony Stewart, the 2005 NASCAR(R) NEXTEL Cup
Champion, became the first rookie to win the Budweiser Shootout in its
28-year history.
KB Racing driver Greg Anderson, three-time and reigning NHRA Pro Stock
world champion, won the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals. Anderson,
the 2005 Speed Channel Driver of the Year, won his 36th race of the last 70
national events and broke the top speed record at the Auto Club Raceway with
a 6.665 at 207.75 mph.
"UGS congratulates Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing and KB Racing
on a great start to the 2006 race season. We continue to be committed to

every UGS technology user drive into victory lane, on the track or in the
board room."
A Tradition of Technology and Tracks
UGS has a long tradition providing NX(TM) software, UGS' comprehensive
digital product development solution, through racing sponsorships. Joe Gibbs
Racing, winner of the 2005 NASCAR(R) NEXTEL Cup Championship, Hendrick
Motorsports (participant in the NASCAR(R) NEXTEL Cup Series) and Andretti
Green Racing, winner of the Indy Racing League(R) (IRL) IndyCar(R) Series
Championship two years running, have been using UGS software for several
years to help develop their cars and improve their performance on the race

Global market review of starter motors and alternators – forecasts to 2016 (download)
A major trend has been the gradual emergence of eco-friendly vehicles, which have systems that automatically switch off vehicle engines during idling, for instance at red traffic lights. According to various research studies, vehicles are at a standstill for one-third of the time while in urban areas. Stop-start systems could help make cities quieter, boost fuel efficiency and reduce exhaust pipe emissions.
