JAPAN: Toyota may fix US gas pedals too
Toyota is also considering fixing the accelerator pedals of vehicles in a ''safety recall'' it issued in the United States over the risk that a loose driver side floor mat could slip forward and jam the pedal, sources close to the matter said on Wednesday.

So, the driver had time to make a 'phone call to say his pedal was stuck but didn't have time to either select neutral, stamp on the brakes or just turn off the engine? One for the Darwin Awards, methinks.

A passenger made the call and the driver wore out the brakes trying to stop. You need to hold the stop-start button down for three seconds to kill the motor and neutral is apparently hard to find on Lexus models. At 100mph the panic is understandable.
