Toyota is hoping that its new C-HR crossover will bring an incremental sales boost of around 100,000 units a year in Europe. The ambitious target equates to an 11% segment share and reflects the company's assessment that the tech-heavy car will straddle market segments and attract new buyers from premium brands as well as mainstream ones.

The reason, the automaker says: "To steadily promote reduction in CO2 emissions".

Toyota Motor Corporation, now rolling out new vehicles - the fourth generation Prius hybrid and C-HR compact crossover - on its Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), announced it had developed advanced engines and transmissions and further evolved its hybrid systems and plans to use these new powertrain units in a "rapidly broadening range of vehicle models", starting in 2017.
