Europe sales up 9.3% in 2015 as VW leads

In 2015 the European car market totalled 14.2m new registrations, an increase of 9.3% over 2014 full year results; the highest since 2009. The market benefited from the last two months of double-digit growth with December setting the highest positive monthly change of the last three years at 1.16m units. Therefore, the last quarter volume increase was the highest of the year, standing at 10.2% more than in Q4 2014, representing 3.42m cars sold in total. The Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate, SAAR, came in at 16.52m units.


Europe 'Big Five' markets sales up 8.8% in 2015

Last year, 2015, new car registrations in Europe's Big Five markets passed the 10m units mark, increasing by 8.8% compared to 2014. All five markets posted positive growth with Germany leading the way with 3.2m units, up by 5.6%, although this was the lowest annual increase among the five countries.


European car sales grow for 27th straight month

European new car sales experienced a 27th consecutive month of growth during November 2015 with volume up 13.5% year on year, the second largest rise this year, according to analysts at JATO Dynamics. This followed a significant slowing of growth during October as a consequence of smaller increases in the 'Big Five' EU markets.

Daimler-Alliance alliance moves towards EVs

The collaboration between Daimler and the Renault-Nissan Alliance, which has now expanded to 13 projects on three continents from an original plan to share development costs, drivetrains and production facilities for Smart and the Renault Twingo, is set to move into the sphere of electric cars next year. At the Frankfurt show, Daimler chairman Dieter Zetsche announced that “in about a year” there will be electric versions of the Fortwo and Forfour, driven by a modified Renault R240 motor produced at Renault’s Cléon factory and powered by Daimler-supplied batteries.
