The Volkswagen Golf remained Europe’s best-selling car in 2011, despite a drop in sales of 1.6% in 2011 compared to 2010, analysts JATO Dynamics said. The VW Polo retained second place for December and for the year, with sales up 2.9% and 0.5% respectively, while Ford’s Fiesta held third place both in December and for the year.

US light vehicle sales rose 8.9% to an estimated 1.24m units, producing a seasonally adjusted annualised rate (SAAR) of 13.56m, down slightly from November’s 13.63m mark but still the second best reading of the year. Full year sales came in somewhat above 12.7m, in line with just-auto estimates.
