UK car manufacturing output increased 40.6% year on year in August, according to latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Some 99,910 cars were built last month, taking year to date production past one million – an annual gain of 1.6%.

Daimler and the Renault-Nissan Alliance have broken ground for their joint venture manufacturing complex COMPAS (Cooperation Manufacturing Plant Aguascalientes), in Aguascalientes in central Mexico. The factory will build premium compact vehicles for Mercedes-Benz and Infiniti.

Nissan Europe has again picked its Sunderland, north-east England, factory to build its segment-pioneering Juke model. The automaker did not announce a production start date for the redesigned, second generation model line but just-auto expects this early in 2017. The decision, the automaker said, "points to a secure future for both production lines in Sunderland and the jobs of 34,000 people currently employed by Nissan and its British suppliers beyond 2020".

Nissan North America is recalling 5,412 model year 2014 Infiniti Q50 hybrid vehicles manufactured from 10 December, 2012 to 25 June, 2014, and Infiniti Q70 hybrids made between 7 November, 2013 and 7 May, 2014 due to a software error that may result in the electric motor stopping while the vehicle is being driven using the electric motor only.
