THE WEEK THAT WAS - Skoda's new press shop

13 November 2015

News that Škoda is building a new, energy-efficient press shop at its main factory in Mladá Boleslav drew a lot of eyes to just-auto.com this week. Construction has now begun on the M4 hall and, next spring, the VW Group automaker will install a servo press line in the new hall that will be able to press aluminium body panels for the first time. The new facility is expected to go into operation in February 2017 at a cost of EUR86m (US$93.47m).

Skoda plans to double China sales by 2020

Skoda says it is strengthening its presence in China in cooperation with its longstanding Chinese joint venture partner SAIC-VW. It says it plans to expand the model range offered in China and invest in ‘pioneering automotive technologies’. SUV segments are targeted and the VW-owned brand wants to double China sales to almost 600,000 units a year by 2020.


Skoda boosts operating profit in 2015

In 2015, Skoda set new records both in terms of global vehicle sales and financial results. Deliveries increased 1.8% to 1,055,500 vehicles (2014: 1,037,200). The brand also achieved record sales revenue, up 6.2% to a new high of EUR12.5bn(US$14bn) (EUR11.8bn). Operating profit rose 12% to EUR915m (EUR817m). The automaker is planning further growth in 2016.


Europe sales up 9.3% in 2015 as VW leads

In 2015 the European car market totalled 14.2m new registrations, an increase of 9.3% over 2014 full year results; the highest since 2009. The market benefited from the last two months of double-digit growth with December setting the highest positive monthly change of the last three years at 1.16m units. Therefore, the last quarter volume increase was the highest of the year, standing at 10.2% more than in Q4 2014, representing 3.42m cars sold in total. The Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate, SAAR, came in at 16.52m units.


European car sales grow for 27th straight month

European new car sales experienced a 27th consecutive month of growth during November 2015 with volume up 13.5% year on year, the second largest rise this year, according to analysts at JATO Dynamics. This followed a significant slowing of growth during October as a consequence of smaller increases in the 'Big Five' EU markets.

Volkswagen Group announced on Wednesday fixes for 1.6- and two-litre EA 189 diesel engines that give false emissions readings, saying it would need all of 2016 to carry out the recalls. The measures are for Europe only and do not apply to US models.


Škoda global sales dip in October

Škoda sales dipped 2.7% year on year to 88,500 vehicles worldwide. Though deliveries were slightly down on the previous year in western Europe, Russia and eastern Europe, individial models such as the Fabia (+44.1%) and the Superb (+22.8%) saw volume rises.

Škoda’s nine months sales revenue increases 5.7%

Škoda says that in the first nine months of 2015, its deliveries to customers increased by 2.2% to 791,500 vehicles worldwide. During the same period, the sales revenue increased by 5.7% to EUR9.3bn (US$10.2bn). Operating profit rose significantly to EUR734m, representing an increase of 12.7% compared to the same period in 2014
