GERMANY: Volkswagen global sales up over 12% in August

Volkswagen has reported a 12.1% increase in global sales in August, compared to the same month a year earlier. Sales in the fist eight months of the year were up 8.3%.

Volkswagen said the 12.1% increase was the strongest monthly growth ever for the brand. A total of 286,000 vehicles were delivered during the month. Year-to-date Volkswagen has sold 2.4m units.

VW brans sales chief Michael Kern said Volkswagen will have sold more than 3.5m cars by the end of the year.

The strongest growth was recorded in Brazil were sales were up almost 30% in the first eight months to 305,000. Volkswagen's largest market, China, saw sales increase 27.4% to 514,000 cars, and in Argentina sales grew 21.3% to 69,500 units.
