Honda Motor has said it will begin sales of a limited number of the UK-built Civic Type R Euro three-door hatchback in Japan. Only 2,010 units will be available.

Honda said the car was "a premium sports model built for mature customers who enjoy exciting driving performance together with a refined ride. It delivers supple handling and exhilarating, prodigious output over a wide range".

The Japanese version has a two litre 148kW/201PS naturally aspirated engine and six-speed manual transmission.

This is the second generation Type R hatchback model sold in Japan. A locally-made four-door sedan version was introduced there in 2007.
