Nissan Motor on Thursday released a sketch of its upcoming global compact car.

This model will be launched first in Thailand in March 2010 and will be available in more than 150 countries.

The automaker is gearing up to launch a new platform on which to build the next generation Micra, production of which is moving to India from the UK, and other new models such as the global compact to be made in China and Thailand.

Nissan plans eventually to produce a range of hatchbacks and sedans in five countries on the common platform.

"We still have not taken a decision on the other two countries," a senior executive said in August.

Russia and Brazil are most likely due to the positive outlook for BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) economies in coming years.

Nissan Motor (Thailand) announced that the compact model would qualify as the country's first 'eco-car'.

The government policy will help promote the development of energy efficient vehicles.
