September may have been a month short on good economic news, but the West European car market held up remarkably well. The German car market continued strong and the UK was strong again also. France bounced back from a poor August and in Italy the national incentive scheme kicked in. The West European seasonally adjusted annual rate of sales (SAAR) picked up to 14.9 million units per annum.
