Find over 2,000 current and future car models in just-auto's product life database (PLDB)

PLDB provides affordable, accurate data on the world's current and future vehicles.

With the Tokyo, Guangzhou, Bologna and Los Angeles motor shows approaching, the fourth quarter promises much in the way of new model launches, as the first details of vehicles due to go on sale in 2010 and beyond come to light. PLDB, just-auto's product life database, is already brimming with information concerning many of the debutantes, with daily updates.

It isn't just future models; PLDB contains an historic section as well as data for the majority of the world's current production cars and light trucks. The search facility makes interrogating the database quick and easy. Information such as vehicle lifecycle, codename, plant location, expected next update or replacement date and architecture/platform can be located in an instant. Further, entries are audited and, where relevant, amended daily.

PLDB lists 2,152 current and future global models from 149 OEM groups, spread across 227 brands, with data for 945 vehicles having been checked or revised in the last month.

Coming soon: Latest exhaust systems research

As each new emissions regulation swings into force, more and more content is added to the exhaust in order to comply. This adds value to the overall price of the system. Manufacturers believe that with increasingly strict emissions regulations forecasted, the emissions control content per light vehicle will rise over the next few years as a result of the introduction of multiple catalytic converters per vehicle, heat exchangers and particulate filters.

According to Peter Lakin, vice president, sales and marketing, exhaust systems, Faurecia, the key trends that are impacting the exhaust industry are emissions legislation and CO2 reduction. He said: “To these should be added the continued pressure on costs from the carmakers and the uncertainty of raw material costs from suppliers, particularly steel and alloys like chrome and nickel.”
